BANGALORE: After Raksha Bandhan, the city will celebrate ''Suraksha Bandhan'' courtesy the Senior Citizens Club (Central Government).
In September, the club has decided to distribute rakhis to students of all major schools in Bangalore. These rakhis will be worn by the students as a pledge and promise to their parents and grandparents that they will be taken care of.
"This is a new project that we are taking up this year for the first time.
The idea came to us when we saw lot of youngsters celebrating Raksha Bandhan, Senior Citizens Club, lifetime president, K M George said. The club has just finished conducting a free eye check up camp on August 10 for the Doddigunta slum elders in Cox Town.
About 80 elders will be given free spectacles at a cost of rs 10,000 and free cataract operations will be performed on some at the Dr M C Modi Eye Hospital at Rajajinagar.
